LOADING BAYS

Loading Bays

All levellers we install have been designed to ‘bridge the gap’ between the loading bay and the vehicle, ensuring loading and unloading is safe. Using a leveller, goods can be moved in and out of the vehicle with one straight movement whether you are using cages, forklifts or pallet trucks.

Our levellers have been designed and tested in accordance to BS EN1398/2009, meaning they fully comply with all European legislation.

Our levellers are custom manufactured in the UK to suit each loading bay application, and each model can be manufactured with a 6000kg or 10000kg capacity. We offer a hard wearing enamel coating as standard in any RAL colour and we also offer a zinc spray finish which is suitable in destructive humid atmospheres and coastal areas.

Hinge Lip Dock Leveller

The hinge lip dock leveller is designed so the platform, when activated, will rise to its’ highest position before the hinge lip swings out automatically. Once fully extended, the platform and the lip will gently lower until it comes to rest on the vehicle bed where it will remain in float mode. The dock leveller will move up and down with the suspension of the vehicle during loading and unloading.

Our hinge lip dock levellers have been designed and tested in accordance with the European standard BS EN1398:2009.

Hinge lip dock levellers are available in three different frame arrangements;

  • Pit mounted; Ideal for existing precast pits
  • Suspended; Suitable for pits which require a tail lift recess, these levellers come with integrated kerb angles
  • Cast in; Suitable for forming a new pit without the use of expensive shuttering

Telescopic Lip Dock Leveller

The telescopic lip leveller is designed to achieve absolute accuracy when extending or retracting the lip plate. This means that the vehicles may be loaded or unloaded to or from the very end of the vehicle bed, giving optimal load utilisation. The electro-hydraulic telescopic leveller comes with a standard lip length of 500mm with an option to increase this to 750mm and 1000mm.

Our telescopic lip dock levellers have been designed and tested in accordance with the European standard BS EN1398:2009.

Edge of Dock Leveller

The edge of dock leveller is designed to provide a safe bridge for personnel and goods when loading and unloading a vehicle. Minimal effort is required to manually lift the lip plate and once lifted the plate will pivot and can be safely lowered on the vehicle bed and warehouse floor.

Edge of dock levellers are suitable where no pit is present and comes delivered fully assembled ready to be bolted or welded back to the dock face. Dock bumpers are included to aid vehicle parking and prevent damage.

Dock Shelters

Dock shelters and seals provide protection from the outside elements on the loading bay by helping to create an effective seal between the vehicle and building, maintaining comfortable working conditions and protecting the goods being loaded or unloaded. They are also a proven barrier against insects and airborne pollutants.

Warehouses and logistic companies can now choose from a wide range of different shelters and seals based on vehicles using the bay, the type of goods being loaded/unloaded and the layout of the loading bay. Particular consideration is given to cold store environments where temperature control is essential.

Different Types of Dock Shelters & Seals

  • Foam pad dock seals are the most cost effective way of sealing the rear of the vehicle to the loading bay. The seal is created by the vehicle backing onto the pads which compress until the vehicle makes contact with the bumpers. Each pad has air vents to allow the air to exhaust on compression.
  • Static dock shelters provide good all round protection from the outside elements keeping the workforce and goods protected. The seal is created by the side and head curtains moulding around the top and side of the vehicle as it reverses into the loading bay to meet the dock bumpers. The Standard is a robust shelter that is well suited to high wind areas. The standard size of a Standard is 3500mm wide x 3500mm high x 600mm projection but can be made to suit varying vehicle heights. The standard head curtain size is 1200mm and the side curtains are 700mm, although this can be changed to suit. The roof of the shelter is sloped to allow any water to run off. Static shelters are constructed from electro-plated box section and covered in a PVC type material. The curtains are made from heavy duty material with high visibility guide stripes to the side curtains.
  • Retractable dock shelters provide good all round protection from the outside elements keeping the workforce and goods protected. The seal is created by the side and head curtains moulding around the top and side of the vehicle as it reverses into the loading bay to meet the dock bumpers. In the event of a misaligned vehicle impacting the front of the shelter, the structure will retract preventing any potential damage to the bay. Once the vehicle leaves the bay the shelter will return to its original position.
  • Standard Inflatable Shelter Once the vehicle is docked the shelter is switched on activating the fan and the head and side bags inflate against the vehicle creating a good all round seal. Loading or unloading of the vehicle can then take place with little risk of the goods or operatives being affected by the outside environment. The standard size is 3600mm wide x 3700mm high x 900mm projection, however this can be changed depending on the vehicles using the bay.

The airbags are manufactured from 1000d cordura type material which is a hardwearing, woven nylon coated fabric with a high tear resistance. The shelter sides are manufactured from box section and a PVC type material. The fan used is normally a three phase centrifugal fan that fully inflates the bags between 10-20 seconds. Once the fan is deactivated the bags will return to their deflated position behind the storage curtains by a counter balance weight system.
